Festival Season 2025

Photographs from my 2025 festival season in Switzerland, a more uneven year shaped by new clients, changing equipment, some analogue experiments and a faster way of delivering photographs during events.

The 2025 season actually started a little before the year itself. Towards the end of 2024, I received a few assignments from Kaufleuten in Zurich, and that collaboration continued into the beginning of 2025. Working there felt like another step forward for me, especially because Kaufleuten has been such an established part of Zurich’s cultural and nightlife scene for a long time.

The collaboration was mainly limited to the beginning of the year. Later, right around the time the festival season was really about to get going, I left to walk the Camino de Santiago, one of the biggest adventures of my life. I missed a few events in May because of it, and when I came back it took me some time to get back into the rhythm of photographing festivals again. I had expected this to some extent, so I didn’t go into the season with particularly big expectations. Mostly, I just wanted to continue where I had left off in 2024.

Technically, there wasn’t a big change in my equipment. As an experiment, however, I also started bringing an analogue camera to festivals this year. The results still leave quite a bit of room for improvement, but I would like to continue exploring this direction in the future.

One bigger change was the way I worked for clients during an event. Until then I had never really delivered finished photographs while I was still on location. In 2025 I realised how useful it can be for clients to have good-quality photographs they can share on social media immediately, so I started selecting and quickly processing a small number of images on site.

It makes an already busy job noticeably more intense, because suddenly I’m photographing, selecting and editing at the same time. But I feel that it significantly improved the quality of the service I could offer.

Overall, 2025 was much more uneven for me than the first two seasons. There were events where I came home really happy and satisfied with what I had made, and others where I felt almost the opposite. Strangely enough, this rarely seemed to have much to do with how satisfied the client was.

This gallery is a collection of photographs from that 2025 festival season.

Behind the camera

Dávid Hosszú

I approach long-term projects as open studies of identity, place, and human experience. I’m curious about the patterns we share and the details that make us unique, the way expressions, posture, environment, and movement can tell parts of our stories.

My work combines observation, technical experimentation, and a genuine interest in the people and contexts I photograph. Whether I’m working with portraits or with the surrounding world, I try to create images that are both aesthetically refined and connected to simple questions with complex answers: Where do we come from? How do we shape each other? And what traces do we leave behind?
