My Camino

A photographic diary from my 2025 Camino de Santiago, from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago and, after a short rest, all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

In 2025, I set out from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to walk the Camino de Santiago, the nearly 800-kilometre pilgrimage route across northern Spain. After reaching Santiago, I took a day to rest, then walked for another two days until I finally arrived at Fisterra, at the ocean.

The journey soon became much more than a long walk. It challenged me both physically and mentally, showed me where my limits were, and at times pushed me to move beyond them. I had to learn to accept circumstances I had not chosen, to let go of the need to be in control, and to trust in small steps. Perhaps this became one of the most important lessons of the journey. When you set out, the journey begins with a single small step, and when you arrive, it ends with another one just as small. Everything in between is made up of millions of similar steps. There is no single moment, place or feeling that you can point to and say: this is the Camino de Santiago. And yet, while you are walking it, all of it becomes part of the Camino. You do not have to see the whole journey at once; it is enough to take the next step, and then the one after that. And eventually, you get there.

Yet it was the people who stayed with me most deeply: the sense of community, the fleeting encounters, the friendships formed along the way, and the particular closeness that can develop between people who may have known each other for only a few hours or days.

This gallery is a visual diary of that journey, a backdrop to the inner journey that took place along the way. The landscapes, villages, long roads, moments of exhaustion, small celebrations and people I met along the way all became part of an experience that I know will stay with me for the rest of my life.

I approach long-term projects as open studies of identity, place, and human experience. I’m curious about the patterns we share and the details that make us unique, the way expressions, posture, environment, and movement can tell parts of our stories.

My work combines observation, technical experimentation, and a genuine interest in the people and contexts I photograph. Whether I’m working with portraits or with the surrounding world, I try to create images that are both aesthetically refined and connected to simple questions with complex answers: Where do we come from? How do we shape each other? And what traces do we leave behind?
